Morton, Ill. – September 13, 2012 – Float Mobile Learning has announced that user experience director Jim Ferolo will speak at Loyola Marymount University today, Thursday, Sept. 13, about the impact of social and informal learning in universities and organizations.
The social, local, mobile (SoLoMo) trend is on the rise, according to the advertising firm Rocket Fuel. Its research has shown that 56 percent of people check social networks on their phones daily.
“Student learning experiences are evolving to take into account the affordances provided by social media and mobile devices,” Ferolo said. “Institutions can begin to leverage the entire student experience beyond the formal classroom by looking at ways in which SoLoMo is changing the way students learn.”
What’s more, Rocket Fuel found that 84 percent of senior executives in North America said social engagement was an advantage for sales and marketing effectiveness.
“Organizations need to consider how their course ecosystems will continue to grow by creating ways in which experiential and informal learning is recorded and shared,” Ferolo added.
In June, Float released an iOS app to log learning on the go. Tappestry, the social network for learning, encourages people to share what they’ve learned and view what others have shared to the app. Ferolo will discuss the research Float team members formed in order to develop Tappestry and why social and informal learning will be agents of change within organizations and universities.
