PERLS
(PERvasive Learning System) is a personal assistant learning application designed to support adult self-learners. It provides an extensible platform for diverse instructional technologies, especially including those developed under the ADL TLA program.
Easy-to-use Interface
PERLS recommends content based on the learner’s history, expertise and interested topics. Each card includes a clear explanation on why PERLS made the recommendation. The bold card based interface makes content selection, reading, and understanding a snap.
Leverages Self Regulated Learning Supported by DoD Research
Learners can start and end at any point, following individualized paths. Learners indicate topics they want to learn about and the path is generated for them based on items in the organization’s library of content.

Quizzes, Tip Cards, Flash Cards, along with a wide variety of learning content encourage learners to engage in reflection, goal-setting, planning and other metacognitive, motivational, and volitional self-learning strategies. PERLS tracks progress to better understand learner interests, and can encourage to learners to step up and set a learning goal for a topic in which a pattern of interest emerges.
Unifies Diverse Applications and Content
Learning content is spread among may sources and buried in diverse specialized apps. Learners will not know where to look. PERLS can recommend content from external repositories, feeds, and siloed learning application content such as lessons created in authoring tools. Third party content can be imported into PERLS or registered but hosted remotely with user progress data via PERLS APIs.

PERLS has been developed in partnership with ADL and is intended to be used in an easy-to-deploy SaaS environment on USALearning the official learning and development site for the United States Federal Government.
